By Na Virada, Francisco Pérez Porto

About this book

This is the new book-CD of the music band Na Virada, including twelve songs inspired by popular stories and the works of Galician, Portuguese and Brazilian authors. This book is for all audiences, with a clear interest in leisure and education and with great instrumental variation, with interesting contextualisation and a good combination of rhythms.

This is an “inter-artistic fusion” in which there is a mixture of music, medieval poetry, a selection of texts of each author and the reproduction of beautiful ceramic elements created by Pérez Porto. The book includes contributions by artists from Cuba, Brazil, Ivory Coast and Galicia.

The book is filled with a sense of all things Galician and lyric, with poems of Galician writers such as, Anisia Miranda and Xosé Neira Vilas, who sing of the landscape and of emigration; Xosé Lois García, Francisco X. Peña and Xosé Vázquez Pintor, who evoke fantasy, tradition and solidarity in the shape of environmentalism and values. From Portugal, we have poet Fernando Pessoa and musician José Mário Branco, with songs about childhood and freedom. There is also a Brazilian influence, in a version of a traditional ring-a-ring o’roses song.

Book fragment

That special and warm place in front of the house or in the yard where the sun is warm and people gather to share affection and joy, where a person can hide with their most intimate feelings, where slow contemplation of the sunrise is worthwhile or where the children play and joke -- that is the solaina, where the party starts with the music of Na Virada.
