By Luz Pozo Garza

About this book

Memoria Solar gathers for the first time all the poetic works of Luz Pozo Garza (Ribadeo, Lugo, 1922) as well as some unpublished or miscellaneous poems. Therefore, this book includes the first volumes of poetry of the author written in the 50s in Spanish such as Ánfora, El vagabundo or Cita en el viento, the bilingual poetry collection últimas palabras/verbas derradeiras, and the books written only in Galician; Concerto de outono, Códice calixtino, Prometo a flor de loto, Vida secreta de Rosalía or her recent Medea en Corinto, as well as her unpublished poetry collection, As arpas de Iwerddon. This is an edition revised by the author, which confirms her vigorous presence in Galician letters, a voice that combines passion, life and poetry.

Book fragment

Still the words bloom softly
of that unsaid
--Rainer Maria Rilke

I entered darkness with the diffuse memory of this rain
you live in sleepiness

With the wounded memory that remains in the temples
in the wake of dawn

In this rain that runs down the forehead
    and the breasts

And solitaire as a harp
when the afternoon dies
and exterminates the twilight.

For all this
you must speak to me in subtly veiled
     gestures

With signs coming from that unsaid
In the return of birds
when they print the steps in the sky
with the ascent of light
I forgot the words
I used to pronounce every day

Do I have to mumble the first syllables
counting with my fingers?
I forgot the names
How to say eternity
    death?

How to find that lost statement
    where to place love?

The air becomes calm
--Fray Luis

This merciful space
becomes the kingdom where day shrinks
A delicate air lasts
    what death lasts

Brief light removed
    from the centre
Immobile flame
Almost extinguished shadow
    maybe trembling
offered day and night to a dusk of birds

I would like to leave innocent camellia here
or durable blues
A votive stele
Pages of silence

An incessant flower suspended
by these anonymous remains

In this unanimous silence
a contracted air
seems to calm its decent
