Amadeo Foz could feel the cold iron cutting through his flesh in a clean and deep cut when the police inspectors told him about Laura’s death. They left the attic so that the image of that sharp blade winning over the natural elasticity of epithelial fibre could form in his mind and only then he realised how painful it felt to be alive without her. Following just his intuition, he felt his neck as if he was hurt in order to test his vital signs, and walked slowly to the mirror on the chest. He realised there was a grey aura around his eyes, he stared at his changed face and he could not restrain a gesture of panic. His knuckles unleashed all his impotence in an aggressive gesture on that silver colour mimicry of his own deformed face. A trail of blood started dripping from the centre of the star created by the cracks in the glass and started falling following gravity, towards a crack in the termite-ridden wood full.
