Espacios Naturais de Galicia 1. Provincia de A Coruña
By Carlos Carmelo Rego, Pilar Martínez Martínez, Susana Reiriz Vargas, Eva Vales Mosquera
About this book
Galicia has a great variety of ecosystems of natural interest in its territory. Many of them are not properly known but they surprise whoever approaches them with respect. This book includes a guide to 24 natural spaces in the province of A Coruña, the most remarkable ones in terms of their geological and landscape value, due to the vertebrates that live in them and the botanical importance of the areas, as well as for other archaeological, historical or cultural aspects. Not all natural spaces of interest in the province are included in this guide, but only those that were deemed more representative, in an attempt to highlight peculiar characteristics in the selected habitats.
Therefore, we have included the following:
1.Estuaries, marshes, coastal lakes, dunes and beaches of ornithological interest -- winter habitats of birds --, for their landscape and botanical interest. 2. Islands and quays, for their landscape and for being areas of pelagic bird watching. 3. Mountains, for their botanic and geological interest. 4. Deciduous forests, for their high botanical value and their fauna. 5. Other areas of general, geological, landscape and cultural interest.
Book fragment
In each of the 24 natural spaces described in this book we have incorporated the following aspects:
- Location of the space in its municipality and with a scale cartography at 1:50000 by the National Geographical Institute.
- How to get there
- Recommended routes
- Places of interest, highlighting the most important aspects
- Geology in the area with highlights of the most important aspects
- Vegetation
- Fauna
- Protection and threats. Regarding protection, whether this is a protected area, using the rules and the classification used by the UICN (International Union for the Preservation of Nature). Regarding threats, we indicate what are the current threats and the integrity of each area.
- Other data of interest: the most relevant data regarding the archaeological, historical and/or cultural traces in the area.
Each chapter includes photos and pictures of the landscapes and geological phenomena, botanic and fauna species and environmental claims.
