About this book

Onofre García is a young man who does not want to leave adolescence behind. He works in a computer company and one day, just to impress a girl, he tells her that he is a film director. This incident radically changes his life because the girl is actually a film producer and Onofre is offered the chance of directing a film.

Without giving any second thoughts to the idea, he accepts the offer and starts living as an impostor, trying to learn, live, the secrets of cinema. In order to be successful he will have to fake it and face producers, script-writers, photography assistants, actors, editors, musicians, etc.

Diario do impostor is a thrilling novel playing with mystery and humour in an unforgettable journey through the world of cinema and the making of movies through the eyes of a newcomer who has to learn the most important lessons all in one go.

Book fragment

The noise made by frogs announced that spring had come. I hadn’t realised it until that night, when I went out to throw the cat out –which I did, by the way, not because of lack of affection for animals but because since it was pregnant again it just stole all the food we left behind and I was fed up. Of course, until I reached that situation, the weather had slowly changed but at that time and for me, it was like breaking news, like the sound of alarms before a bomb. Funny how we perceive things. The alarm seems to be the bombing itself and the voice of frogs, spring.

In fact, all these years, with the first warm nights of the month of April, the colony of batrachian that inhabit the shores of the lake opposite my house, in their need to fulfil some physical demand, saturate the fresh night air with a redundant sea of cries. Thousands of individuals shout in total disharmony that, by repetition and the similarity of their voices, finally sounds like a single throat. It is as if the earth wanted to get a hoarse voice from welcoming spring so much, after so many months of disturbing wind, cold, rain and long nights.
