Young Adults
Corredores de sombra
By Agustín Fernández Paz
About this book
This is a moral thriller where a double mystery is about to unfold (who is the dead man, who killed him?) in an investigation with moments of great tension and a final resolution in line with the greatest of mystery novels of all times. However, this is also a novel about the path the protagonist takes to find out what she wants from life; she is forced to go against her family and all it represents. This is a memorable novel that shows Agustín Fernández Paz at his best and as one of the finest novelists in Galician.
Book fragment
The time has come, indeed, I won’t delay this any further. I never thought I would finally fulfil my uncle Carlos’s wishes, I never thought I would be capable of breaking the invisible barrier that prevented me from writing what happened during the summer of 1995. A summer that drifts away in time and in memory, as I was very young back then, while now I see how I obstinately reach that line that marks the 30s. I imagine that I needed some time to take some distance, so that the facts solidify in my memory and lose all their disturbing potential. Ten years have gone by and this has been a necessary step to face the moment in which fears and insecurity are left behind and I start this journey just following my words.
Maybe this is just a payback, or that breaking away from my family ghosts, as Carlos used to ask me. Maybe the reasons that move me stem from there and could be enough for me to justify myself. But I am also aware of the fact that my decision was influenced by some news that has apparently nothing to do with me.
