About this book

I haven’t seen an old woman or an old man,
neither old nor very old.
Run Pumpkin, Run.
Run quicker little Pumpkin!
The pumpkin responded as it went rolling along the way,
as the wolf, the bear, and the lion looked on in astonishment..
Who is inside, mocking the three wild beasts?

Book fragment

Once upon a time there was a little old woman who lived in a cottage.
One day she received a letter: her granddaughter was getting married, and she was invited to the wedding.
The grandmother was so happy she set off at once so as not to be late.
After a while she came across a wolf that said to her,
“Granny, I’m going to eat you up!”
“Don’t eat me up, wolf,
I’m too skinny!” she said.
“I’m going to my granddaughter’s wedding,
and when I come back I’ll be much fatter.”
The wolf thought the old woman was just skin and bones and let her:
“Fine, off with you, I’ll wait for you here!”
A little further on, the grandmother
came across a bear that said,
“Granny, I’m going to eat you up!”
“Don’t eat me up, bear, I’m too skinny!
I’m going to my granddaughter’s wedding,
and when I come back I’ll be much fatter.”
The bear thought the old woman was just skin and bones and let her go.
“Fine, off with you, I’ll wait for you here!”
Almost at her journey’s end
she came across a lion that said,
“Granny, I’m going to eat you up!”
“Don’t eat me up, lion, I’m too skinny!
I’m going to my granddaughter’s wedding
and when I come back I’ll be much fatter.”
The lion thought the old woman was full of hot air and let her go.
“Fine, off with you, I’ll wait for you here!”
