His mother gets annoyed, “Plucky-Plucked Cat is going to come and he’ll eat you up in one bite!” Then there’s a loud knock at the door, It’s Plucky-Plucked Cat who’s come for his half of the cake...
Book fragment
Mother Hen was very happy with her son Cocorico. One day, the little chick asked Mother Hen to make a cake
“I’ll make a tasty cake, little Cocorico,” said the hen.
“But before that, we’ll have to get some wood to heat the stove.”
“I’ll go mummy!”
“Alright,” said the hen, “but be careful with the plucky-plucked cat,
who meows three times before he bites.”
Drake was gathering sticks in his beak
when all of a sudden, he heard from behind:
“Meaoow! Meaoow! Meaoow!”
The poor little chick, not daring to move, said,
“Don’t eat me plucky-plucked cat, I’m only little.
My mummy’s going to make a cake,
and I have to gather wood to heat the stove.”
“If you don’t want me to eat you,
you’ll have to give me half the cake.”
The frightened little Cocorico ran back home;
but Mother Hen calmed him down.
“Don’t worry little Cocorico.
We’ll make a bigger than huge cakefor you and plucky-plucked cat.”
They beat the eggs, sifted the flour, added the sugar...
and made an enormously huge cake!
Peck, peck, peck... “Yummy, yummy!” said little Cocorico.
