About this book

As an ancient supreme deity and planet of human adventure, the Earth presides over the third cycle of the dramatic text of the poet. It includes three tragedies and a comedy. In Priscillian of Trier, the focus is on the strong personality of this character. The world of The Crows is that of a wild beauty of Icelandic sagas. In María Soliña several different characters interact in a plot that moves from farce to satire to the language conflict between a foreign institution and the Galician people. The Swallows tells a story that unfolds in China in the 14th century, at the end of the Mongol monarchy of the Iuan.

This is a dramatic work in verse, unusual in Galician and even Spanish literature, full of strength, verbal splendour and meaning.

and with this I will enlarge the scope of the Cross
and you, with an enlarged Christianity,
the fonts of new temples.
Now let us walk with respect
the last stretch towards the gallows.
Let us not become the obstacle
for the grandeur of the one who dared being himself.

Máximo enters the palace. The bishops leave.

Their comes our master!
Shame on our tears,
that run less serene
than his strong step!

Prisciliano enters with the soldiers.

PRISCILIANO

Dear friends that you shared with me
the same sun and the same love, farewell.
To all of you saddened by my departure
and that you therefore came here, farewell.
There are many beings, but a single sorrow.
A world of violent circumambulation
of hoards of righteous brutes,
of lost geniuses, greedy fools
and honest men but uncoordinated,
please make the earth open at my feet,
and me, one of those incapable wise men,
let me go down to measure the nucleus of misery.
In short I won’t be but a memory in your souls;
let your affection not enlarge my image;
I’ve been just what I’ve been; my courage
must not overcome that of common
ideas and you and me and the work.
